The other reason for visiting the Fussen area was to see the 'fairy tale' castle. This is not a medieval castle but a replica built in C19 by the King of Bavaria. We joined the queue for tickets but decided to give tour a miss as it was about an hour just to buy tickets. This plus the german sense of humour to wind in the roof shade and so leave us all baking in the sun.
However some pieces of luck were due to arrive.
1 - an American had two tickets to sell for a tour just starting as he had to go, so we bought them off him & legged it after the others
2 - we arrived at barrier too late but guide said next party was also english so we could go with them, they were americans actually and a pretty mixed bunch. First impressions eh.
3 - the top floor of the castle has the big hall which was used for parties etc and was said to have very good acoustics. This was then stunningly provided bu the americans who were given permission to sing and burst into a semi gospel type song unaccompanied. Not only were they very good but they proved the acoustics were pretty effective too.
So all in all a good day.
